Back Black Opal Black Opal was a fascinating project for us. At the time our clients were refurbishing their townhouse in London. They wanted an abstract, statement piece to bring their kitchen/diner to life. We first met our clients at a local show, many years ago. Since then we’ve worked on various projects together. The latest, Black Opal, began when they saw a backlit wall panel we were displaying at Chelsea Flower Show. Black Opal is a functional art piece that is both a beautiful light source and a splash back. The abstract styling comes from a close up image of one facet of a large black opal (hence the name). We captured the tones, lines and fragments in the glass, matching every detail for them.Being in the business of premium jewellery our clients sourced the opal and provided the image. They chose this image for it’s impact and significance. This was vital because creating art with meaning was central to the whole project. Throughout the project, we considered every detail. The colours. The framework and fixings. How it would look lit and unlit. How it would sit in the surrounding environment and how it would function. We worked together with the architect and builders to ensure the design and fit was perfect. From start to finish we worked to ensure Black Opal worked and felt right as part of the whole space.
